Senior Captain's Welcome 2026

“Golf is a good walk spoiled” – so (allegedly) said Mark Twain.  I’m sure most of us seniors don’t agree with that, so I went searching for an alternative.  There are many to choose from, but I rather liked this one:  “Golf is like real sport, but slower and for old people”.  Whichever definition you use, it’s all about getting some exercise in the fresh air whilst enjoying a bit of competition with friends.

The seniors section at Truro is the largest identifiable group within the club with over 150 members.  First and foremost, we are, and will always be, members of Truro Golf Club and whilst we do have a committee to run senior affairs, everything we do is in line with Club policies and procedures.  Although there are no dedicated tee times, the usual days for seniors are Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner to play with: just put your name down in any of the vacant slots and enjoy a round with your fellow seniors.

We have an established set of competitions ranging from scratch strokeplay through to a two-clubs-and-putter fun competition which was introduced in 2025.  These will all run again in 2026 and I hope as many of you as possible will enter.  Entry for nearly all competitions is through HowDidiDo, so look on there regularly to see what is coming up.

We have the same friendly matches as in previous years with home and away games against 15 other Cornwall clubs starting in March.  Last year, more than 50 seniors played in at least one match, and it would be good to see similar numbers for 2026.  You don’t have to be a low handicap player to take part – all are most welcome.  As with the competitions, application to take part in matches is through HowDidiDo, and I will select teams for each event from those who apply.  We also have a Tri-Club competition with St Austell and Budock Vean which was reinstated in 2025.  The 2026 event will be held at Truro in October.

You can view the full competitions and matches calendar on the website here.

Let’s hope we have a great year of golf in 2026.
