Competitions
All fully paid members of Truro Golf Club AND Truro Golf Club Seniors are eligible to play in the following competitions and to play in matches against the seniors of other Cornish golf clubs, irrespective of their handicaps.
To apply to play in a match, we use HowDidiDo online. The seniors captain makes choices from the list of members that have applied. Results of the matches can be found on this website.
Trophy and other competitions - apply through HDiD online
If a member does not have three qualifying rounds from the previous 12 months, they cannot win prize money or a trophy. Results are found on HDiD.
The Trophy Competitions - the top thirty players will receive points that contribute to the Order of Merit
Albert Wright Cup - Donated in 1993 by Albert Wright. Club captain in 1963 and 1973 - Medal competition, 95% allowance, maximum handicap 28, played off the white tees
John Brimson Trophy - Presented by members of the Seniors on John's 90th birthday in 2001 - Medal competition, 95% allowance, maximum handicap 28, played off the white tees
Highbury Cup - Presented in 1995 by the widow of Monty Shaw. Scratch competition for the cup, played off the white tees, 95% allowance, maximum handicap 28. Order of Merit calculations based on the handicap results
Harry Champion Cup - Donated in 1993 by Harry Champion. Medal competition played off the white tees, 95% allowance, maximum playing handicap 28
Allan Hayhurst Technology Trophy - Presented by members of the seniors to mark Allan's years as secretary of the seniors’ section - Medal competition, 95% allowance, maximum handicap 28, played off the white tees
Pewter Pot - Initially the only Seniors competition, now the season’s finale - Stableford competition, 95% allowance, maximum handicap 28, played off the yellow tees
John Turner Prize - Presented by the seniors to mark his outstanding contribution to the seniors for many years as captain and an exceptional player. Medal competition, 95% allowance, maximum handicap 28, played off the white tees
Other Competitions
Leonard Pinner Cup - Presented in 1998 in honour of Pinner who was the inaugural seniors’ secretary from 1970's until 1998. Handicap knockout singles competition, full allowance, maximum 28 playing handicap. Played off the white tees
Nick Barwell Charity Shield - Presented by Nick Barwell and members of the seniors in 2014 to mark his outstanding charity work. Stableford - off yellow tees. Team event Nick’s team against the Captain’s team. 2BB with the best scoring pair from either team winning the shield.
Wilson Veteran's Cup - Donated in 1975 by James Wilson OBE. Stableford - played off the yellow tees, full playing handicap plus one stroke for every two completed years over 65. Non qualifier
Pyramid Trophy - Three man Texas Scramble played off the yellow tees – allowances 30%, 20%, 10% low to high handicappers
Past Captain's Challenge - Presented in 2019 by John Doyle to mark his year as seniors’ captain. Individual Stableford, full course allowance, no maximum. Yellow tees. Only open to past captains of the seniors’ section.
Ray Smith Trophy - Presented by members of the seniors in 2010 to mark Ray's 12 years as secretary of the seniors’ section. Better-ball pairs Stableford with drawn partners. 85% allowance played the off yellow tees.
Frostbite Challenge - Played on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, January to March inclusive. Five clubs plus putter, best four scores to count
Winter Pairs - Winter pairs knockout competition running from January to April. 85% allowance, 2BBB
Greensomes - Played in teams of two, off the yellow tees. Allowances - 40% of the highest handicap added to 60% of lowest handicap
Two clubs and a putter – A fun Stableford competition played off the yellow tees
Monthly Stableford Competitions - Individual Stableford, played off the yellow tees, 95% handicap allowance
